FAQ

Usually when planning a visit to AFM Stevenage these are the questions many people have. If you have a question that hasn’t been answered below feel free to contact us via the big red “Email the church” button above. We would love to hear from you.

When are our services held?

The best way to get to know us is to attend our Sunday morning service which begins at 10.00am. There’s free parking in the car park next to the church, or you can use the Sainsbury's car park at the front of the church. For directions on how to reach us please see the find us page.

What to wear

Just wear whatever you feel comfortable in. Some people like to dress up for church, others dress casual. What is important is that we come together to worship God - the quality or value of clothes that we wear is of no consequence.

What to expect

At Apostolic Faith Mission - Stevenage you can expect a warm, friendly welcome from our Welcome Team who will lead you to an available seat. The Sunday service starts at 10.30am with the Praise & Worship team (Choir) singing accompanied by a love band with keyboards, bass guitar and drums. The song lyrics will be displayed on the screens around the Sanctuary so you can sing along with us.

At 11am the person facilitating the service will go to the podium and welcome everyone, give a summary of the notices, and lead the congregation in giving the freewill offering. The children will then leave for their focused age groups (Sunday School) whilst the Choir sings a few more songs. The Minister will then go up to the podium and preach from the Bible. The preaching is then followed by a time of prayer which concludes the service. We then enjoy some tea, coffee and friendly chit chat.

What is the freewill offering?

The freewill offering is made up of monetary donations that congregants give to the church. These donations are placed in the baskets at the front of the Sanctuary during offering time. The church uses these donations to cover church expenses such as the Minister's salary, the building utilities and upkeep and community outreach programmes.

Whilst we are grateful for all donations given it is imperative that you do not feel pressured to donate if you do not want to or do not have the money to do so. If you do wish to donate, the Welcome Team can provide you with a donation envelope on which you can write your details so that a receipt can be issued.

Rest assured that as a church we strive to be good stewards of all donations received. You can view our financial data on the Charity Commission For England and Waleswebsite.

What about my children?

Children are very welcome at AFM Stevenage! We have a Sunday school ministry that runs during the main church service which has three age focused classes;

"Splash" for ages 4 – 7

"Extreme" for ages 8 – 10

"Grid" for ages 11 – 14

All the teachers who work with children have current DBS certificates.

If your children are younger than 4 they can sit with you in the main hall.

Can I park at the church?

We have plenty of parking available behind Poplars Community Centre, if that’s not enough, you can park in the Sainsburys car park which is next to the community centre. Both car parks are free to use and there is no time limit.

Holy Communion

At Apostolic Faith Mission - Stevenage we share in the Communion every last Sunday of the month. Those who profess Jesus Christ as their Lord and personal Saviour are welcome to partake. Communion is an enactment that reminds us of God's love which drove him to send His son Jesus Christ to die in order for humanity to be reconciled back to God. We share in bread and grape juice. You are most welcome but not obliged to share in communion. There will be guidance given as to how to partake in the communion as the service proceeds.

Disabled access

Our premises are wheelchair accessible. There is a fully wheelchair accessible toilet and level access into the Sanctuary and all the rooms. If you have specific needs and would like to talk to us, please contact our office and someone will be waiting to help you.
